Lake Garda - European topspot for all sports!
The largest Italian inland lake, for decades has been one of the most popular holdiday destinations for Germans. Its Mediterranean climate, its vicinity to Germany, its unique mixture of stunningly beautiful scenery, an abundance of cultural events and excellent food as well as sporting opportunities that are unique in Europe, are just some of the reasons why every year hundreds of thousands of tourists flock to the lake.
For 25 years surfing has been one of the main sports. Tourism at Torbole almost exclusively relies on fun board surfers, who flock to the lake every weekend from the Tirol and Bavaria . Sailing, by contrast, has now been a long-standing tradition for 50 years. This tradition is fostered with countless sailing regattas, both on a local and on an international level including world championships.
Here in the northern area of the lake conditions are just perfect, so this is why regatta professionals from many countries do their training here, even in the winter months. For many years Lake Garda, with its surrounding mountains has also been a premium location for bikers and this is the reason why the largest biker meeting, held in Central Europe , takes place in this biker mekka. Paragliders adore Monte Baldo, and the descent from its summit, landing at the lake’s shore, is certainly a must for all paraglider pilots. Arco, a climber’s paradise, offers the visitor countless routes, and the Rock Masters World Cup sees the “who of who” climbing professionals getting together. Many tennis hotels and premises attract tournament players as early as in April to prepare here for their tournament session. Golfers will be delighted to find 5 excellent golf courses.
