100% more !this is our philosophy!

In 20 years of Hobie Centre on Lake Garda we have built up an excellent reputation as a qualified school with first-class instruction. The RADIO TRAINING SYSTEM, which we have developed, sets us apart from the competition with innovative training methods. Immediate corrections via radio and waterproof headsets guarantee perfect training and make learners feel confident. The course program covers a wide range from beginner classes for absolute novices to advanced classes taking you into heavy wind sailing and gennaker training in the perfection class.
„100 % more!“ This is our philosophy!!
And our team of instructors are 100 percent committed to live up to those standards that we have set for ourselves.
All classes start on a Monday and finish on Friday the daily training time is approximately 3 hours of theory and practical tutorials.
Preliminary exercises will precede all on-water-training units. The emphasis, however, is on hands-on experience. Equipment including a neoprene suit, trapeze and vest will be provided. Groups will be divided into skill groups by the trainer team.
In April for the “early birds” we provide super warm and semidry kiting suits with a sailing overall as a top layer- who says there is such thing as cold weather!

Courses and skills

Beginner’s classes:
The group will be split up into absolute novices and those participants with basic sailing or surfing experience. In a 15 hours class participants will acquire basic knowledge of Cat sailing, all manoeuvres including capsizing and bringing the boat upright again, trapeze sailing plus, of course, setting sails, knots and “Rules of the Road”. The class finishes with a VDWS basic certificate. Equipment will be provided. Examination fees € 22.

Advanced classes:
These classes require the skills of the beginner’s class or equivalent experience on dinghies with trapeze. The course program includes improving the Cat technique at all manoeuvres and at intermediate wind strengths. Trapeze sailing and double trapeze, the use of trimming equipment and refined handling, also in the event of hazardous situations.

Perfection classes:
Those who can sail a catamaran at a wind strength of 4 with double trapeze meet the requirements of the perfection class. Sailing will take place primarily under Vento in the morning, at a wind strength of 4-6, and in difficult wave conditions. Different trapeze techniques, manoeuvres from the trapeze, flyer class at the back line, speed jibing under any wind conditions, trimming at different wind strengths, manoeuvre circles under heavy wind will be elements of the program with Hobie 16. In addition to this, participants will be instructed in gennaker sailing on a brand new Hobie 16 Race with spi launcher, or on a Hobie Pacific and Hobie Tiger. Our students confirm that even for skilled sailors there is still plenty to learn. Heinz Stickl will conduct the training personally.

Kids on Cat :
Since the 2005 season, we have been adding to our program classes for kids aged 8 or over on the kids Cat Teddy. We will, of course, provide the complete equipment. Classes require the experience of an Opti class and the VDWS “Jüngsten” junior certificate. This addition has been received enthusiastically, and the program has therefore been extended to include F courses for kids. For security reasons, a support boat will accompany the Teddies at the water. In the 2006 season, the kids, at many occasions, managed to impress the „oldies“: At wind strengths of 4-5 in the trapeze they all had tremendous fun while proud parents were watching them from the shore.

Private Lessons

If you are a novice, we strongly recommend that you take part in the course program. Learning in the group is much more fun, and instruction via radio is very intensive and individual anyway. Those who have already acquired core skills can, of course, accelerate the learning curve in private trainings. If you want to progress quickly, the option of one-to-one lessons is just perfect for you. We can, however, not guarantee that there is always an instructor available, as classes for groups will take priority. We therefore advise you to book for off season periods or weekends.

NEW in 2007: Tiger Weekend , Saturday and Sunday 3 hours trimming, technique, manoeuvres and gennaker sailing.

Lessons and more sailing!

Weekend classes with a 6-hour-program will be available throughout the season. For those who have interrupted their practice for a longer period it may be advisable to participate in a 6-hour refreshers training before the course starts. You will then get a € 30 reduction on the package with the following week’s class.
In addition to that, there is the option to book private training.
For those wishing to switch over from dinghy to surfboard as well as for absolute beginners, we offer special taster courses.
Despite the abundance of options in our course program, which allows anyone to progress and have fun in the group, you might still prefer to stay on your own and sail freely. You then have several options:
Charter:
With a sailing partner you can charter a Hobie. Swopping of Cats is not possible. You can book weekends or arrange charter for a week.
Pool:
If you wish to do so, you can book the pool program on your own, from Monday to Friday or for the entire week, and find a sailing partner at the destination. Cats can be swapped, and there is a guarantee for sailors that there will always be a Hobie available.
Rental fees:
The entire Hobie selection can be hired according to individual wishes. 2 hours, 4 hours, a day, a 10 days ticket or individual arrangements are available.
Tours:
Depending on the interests of our guests, we arrange day or half day tours as a fleet. These tours only take place at the weekend. These are for expert sailors only, as there will be longer passages with strong winds.

Specials and Race Clinics

In addition to the standard programs that will take place on a regular basis we will organise special days with venues and trainings for particular target groups, such as a regatta training with Helge Sach, worldchampion 2006!
Our specials include the following elements:

Practical training for Cat instructors and candidates.
In a one-week intensive training class Cat instructors and candidates, no matter which association they belong to, prepare for the season. With professional instruction via radio and video monitoring, they will be able to substantially accomplish their sailing skills.

Season opening and season finish:
Traditionally, the season in the sports camp will be opened with a week for sailors, surfers, Cat sailors and bikers. During that week, in addition to a variety of classes and free sailing, there will also be an accompanying program, evening events, parties and regattas. Depending on weather conditions, sailing tours, long beat regattas etc. will be organised. The next opening week for summer 2008 is scheduled for the last week of april.
Master week:
Twice a year the most accomplished Cat sailors will gather for a master week. High level technical training, sailing under heavy winds, trimming advice, introduction to regatta sailing, strategies, technique and racing rules for regatta novices are part of the program. If you want to participate, you should have completed a perfection class or above, and should be able to operate your Hobie at a wind strength of 4 or more.
Regatta training with professionals
In the past years, we have booked several world class sailors, like Markus Wieser, Vinzent Hösch, Paul Brotherton for dinghies and keel boats, as well as Stefan Griesmeier, Gavin Colby and Helge Sach as Cat trainers for regatta trainings. However, those trainings are reserved for regatta sailors who bring along their own boats. They will, of course, be restricted to one boat class. The trainings for 2008 have now been scheduled:

F 18 and Hobie Tiger Training with the world champions 2006 Christian and Helge Sach
The 2006 and 2007 Easter training was a great success, and in 2008 we will start off the season with this highlight once again. The new world champions will instruct regatta novices and experienced regatta sailors in two skill groups during the Easter week of 2008.

EHCA HOBIE 16 Gennaker Training Easter 2008
Shortly before the training with Helge Sach and the F18 Cats, the Hobie 16 Gennakers will participate in the 2. international Hobie 16 Gennaker training of the European Hobie Class Association EHCA . In two training classes, upcoming talent from many European countries will be training.
